EFFECTIVE LITERACY (ELF)
for Grades 2-4 

is a two-year staff development  process designed to support implementation of a comprehensive literacy framework for instruction.      

Program Description
Through practical experience, this staff development will enable teachers to implement a variety of instructional strategies and approaches to promote learning success as reported by the National Reading Panel report. The content of the staff development consists of the following components:

-data-based instructional decision-making

-reading workshop

-writing process

-writing workshop

-vocabulary instruction

-comprehension strategies

-word study

-guided reading

-fluency instruction

-literature circles

Workshop Schedule

Yr. 1:  3 initial summer days; 4 days during the school year

Yr. 2:  3 summer days; 2 days during the school year
